Case Study: | Online Investment Portfolio Manager |
Client: | Leading Investment Bank |

Business Problem:

Investment portfolios not accessible to clients
The organisation has an internal software management system to manage their client's investment portfolios. This system is updated in real-time to reflect the current value of a specific portfolio. This system is not accessible to the companies' clients, because a lot of the information is sensitive and is proprietary to the company. There is information in the system that company would like their clients to see, like their portfolio details and current portfolio value. This wasn't possible using the existing system.
The Journey
Due to the proprietary nature of the existing systems the CIO realised a custom built software solutions would be required to address the business problem. The CIO began to research companies who specialised in web based solutions and legacy system integration. Five companies were selected to present proposed solutions to the CIO, and subsequently the board.
Awarding the project
Four Corners were awarded the project based on the companies' experience and proven expertise in web based software development and legacy system integration. Four Corners showed the company various examples of similar systems that had been created for other customers, and the CIO
had the opportunity to speak to some of these clients to discuss Four Corners's performance on these other projects. The CIO was impressed with the positive testimonials from existing customers and Four Corners's commitment to quality control, and made the decision to proceed with
Four Corners .
Proposed Solution
Middle-tier Database
Four Corners proposed a bridging, middle-tier database for the following reasons:
1. The organisation was very concerned about the security of the existing system, and did not want the existing system to be exposed on the web in any way.
2. The existing system used proprietary database software that didn't support integration with the web.
The advantage of a middle-tier database was that the company could control the information clients would be able to access.
Investment Portfolio
Clients can view their investment portfolios, and the value of their investments are refreshed every twenty minutes.
Security
Users of the Online Investment Portfolio Manager are required to login to use the system.
Clients can only view their own investment portfolios.
Implementation
Four Corners worked with the company's staff on the business analysis and to establish the requirements of the system. Visual workflows and use cases were provided to the company to allow them to evaluate and approve the software design. The development of the software was rolled out on a development server before being rolled out to the companies' customers.
The Result
Clients were impressed with the new service and began to use it extensively almost from implementation. Clients and staff provided feedback and this resluted in new functional areas being developed. The system became a useful marketing tool to secure new clients.
The company was impressed with the success, speed, and thoroughness of the development, and have subsequently provided testimonials to other
Four Corners customers.
